A flamewar is when an user makes another or multiple ones angry and start a discussion, usually insulting each other. Smashboards like all other discussion sites, is prone to them.
A remembered one would be those caused by D-idara that insulted the characters introduced in the new Smash Bros. because none of them were the ones he wanted, even insulting the game's director Masahiro Sakurai for it.
